Details About the Whirlpool Cooktop Recall

What’s Causing a Recall?

Reports indicate that Whirlpool, KitchenAid, and JennAir touch control glass cooktops are turning on by themselves. This defect poses a fire hazard and possible burn injuries. Although it’s not clear what’s causing the malfunction, Whirlpool is taking this problem very seriously and issued the recall in cooperation with the US Consumer Product Safety Commission.

The manufacturer urges you to turn off the power to the stovetop at the circuit breaker until you’ve determined whether your unit is affected by the recall.

Which Cooktop Models are Affected?

So how do you find out if your glass cooktop is included in the recall?

If you purchased a Whirlpool, KitchenAid, or JennAir cooktop from Lowe’s, Home Depot, or another retailer between March 2017 and August 2019, it might be affected by the Whirlpool cooktop recall.

Look underneath the cooktop for a printed model and serial number. It will either start with a “W”, “K”, or “J” depending on the brand. Once you’ve found it, reference the model numbers listed below. You will need to contact Whirlpool Corporation right away if your cooktop’s model number is listed.
