Why Freezers Stop Freezing

There are a number of reasons why freezers no longer freeze. Let our team take a look at your freezer, and we will figure out exactly what is going on. In many cases the condenser or evaporator coil is dirty. If the compressor motor runs and the freezer does not lower the temperature in the slightest, there might be an issue with the condenser or evaporator coils. These coils should be cleaned every six months.

If the coils are not the issue, our technician will continue to troubleshoot the problem. Some freezers suffer from faulty start relays. Start relays send power to the compressor. The compressor is positioned along the back near the bottom. A malfunctioning start relay will cause the compressor to fail. The compressor is essential to freezer operation. We will disconnect the freezer from the power, remove the start relay and test it with a multimeter. If there is insufficient continuity between the start and run terminals, the compressor will have to be replaced.

What About Freon?

Do not attempt to handle Freon challenges on your own. The technician will remove the freezer’s back panel, check the coils and determine if they are frosted properly. The technician knows exactly what to look for to determine if there is an issue with the Freon.
